From the first sighting to a shared situational picture of the Asian hornet: the HornetLog app makes reporting a matter of seconds, Hivora Sense — a self-sufficient bait station — takes over continuous observation, and on the Hivora platform associations, municipalities and professionals organise the response — all the way to coordinated nest removal.
Every sighting lands in the same system, whether it came in via HornetLog, a form or by hand.
Every report with status. Nobody asks twice.
Sightings and nests are traceable: who reviewed them, what is open, what is done.
Structured data, ready for official channels.
Whatever you sort through today can be exported tomorrow or handed over to authorities in a targeted way.
AI takes the routine off your plate.
It flags plausibility, image quality and possible duplicates directly on the record. Your time stays free for what matters: the expert assessment.
WHERE TO START?
Spotted an Asian hornet?
With the HornetLog app, a sighting is reported in under a minute — no account needed. Afterwards you can follow what happens to your report.
Starting out as an association?
Beekeeping associations and federations go straight to the association registration: onboard members, manage nests and build a regional situational picture together.

THE PROBLEM
Many sightings. Many channels. Little overview.
Sightings and nest reports about the Asian hornet reach associations and municipalities through many channels today: email, phone, forms, social media. Photos and locations are incomplete in different ways. Every single one has to be reviewed, classified and tracked, mostly by hand.
Sightings reach associations and municipalities scattered across many channels.
Photos, locations and details vary in completeness.
Reports must be reviewed and classified, often by hand.
Classic bait pots have to be checked one by one on site — what happens in between goes unseen.
Without structured data, the overview is missing. And with it, the time for the actual work.
REPORT
Every sighting ends up in the same place.
Whoever spots an Asian hornet reports it with a photo and location via the HornetLog app — in seconds, no account needed. Associations and beekeepers can also embed a Hivora report form for sightings and nests directly on their own website. Together with detections from Hivora Sense bait stations, everything flows into the Hivora platform in a structured way instead of being scattered across inboxes.
OBSERVE & REVIEW
The bait station handles continuous observation. AI supports the triage.
Hivora Sense documents activity at the bait pot autonomously — no one has to stand next to it. On the platform, an AI pre-review triages incoming reports: likely an Asian hornet, or probably not. The expert assessment stays with the people who know.
ORGANISE
Reviewed data becomes a situational picture. The picture becomes action.
Maps, hotspots and statistics show where things are happening. Nest reports — including those from the report forms on association and beekeeper websites — come in as tickets: regionally participating associations can take them over, coordinate the nest removal and document every step from report to removal. Data can be prepared or exported for official reporting channels.
THREE BUILDING BLOCKS
One app. One bait station. One platform.
Hivora consists of three building blocks that interlock — each also works on its own.
For everyone who reports — and everyone who works outside
HornetLog – the native app for reporting and field work
Report a sighting in seconds and follow its status — deliberately no account required for the first report. In the field, the app connects Hivora Sense stations, syncs their data and shows images offline right on site.
For associations, municipalities and professionals
Hivora platform – the shared situational picture
This is where app reports, station events and nest data come together: maps, statistics, hotspots, nest management and forecasts — with roles and permissions for working together in an association or municipality.
A camera module and local edge AI extend the classic wick bait pot: Hivora Sense observes autonomously, documents relevant activity locally and is synced later via the HornetLog app — over Wi-Fi or fully offline with an SD card.
AI SUPPORT
AI helps with pre-review. Humans decide.
Routine out, expertise in.
AI works in two places at Hivora: locally in the Hivora Sense station, where it separates relevant activity from noise, and on the platform, where it triages incoming reports — trained specifically on the Asian hornet. The expert assessment always stays with the people who carry responsibility.
AI takes the routine. The expert assessment stays with the humans.
Hint on species identification
The AI suggests whether a photo likely shows an Asian hornet. That is a hint, not a diagnosis.
Plausibility & image quality
Hints about blurry images, missing details or possible privacy risks appear directly on the record. Decisions are made under a four-eyes principle.
Cluster hints
Conspicuous concentrations are highlighted on the map, so associations and municipalities can direct their attention to where it is needed.
PILOT PARTNERS
Backed by real associations and a state funding programme.

From free reporting to professional operations coordination. Four entry points that build on each other.
Observer
Report sightings for free, follow their status and become part of the shared situational picture.
Hivora is developed together with users, associations and municipalities. Feedback flows directly into the next versions.
AI supports. It does not replace expert assessment.
AI suggestions are hints, not diagnoses. Decisions about reports, nests and actions are always made by humans.
Data protection and data minimisation
We only collect the data that is actually needed for a report. Hosting in Europe, GDPR-compliant.
Addition, not replacement
Hivora supports official reporting channels and can prepare data for them in a structured way. It does not replace them.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Hivora
What is Hivora?
Hivora is a system of tools for coordinating, documenting and removing nests of the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina). It consists of the HornetLog app for reporting, the Hivora Sense digital monitoring bait pots and a platform on which associations, municipalities and professionals organise a shared situation map.
What is HornetLog?
HornetLog is the free app in the Hivora system. It lets you report an Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) in seconds with a photo and location – the first report without any account. In the field, the app also pairs with the Hivora Sense bait pots and retrieves their recordings.
What is Hivora Sense?
Hivora Sense is a digital monitoring bait pot: a camera module with on-device AI that extends the classic wick-based bait pot and autonomously detects and documents Asian hornet activity at the pot. Analysis runs directly on the device, and recordings are synced via the HornetLog app.
What is the difference between Hivora, HornetLog and Hivora Sense?
Hivora is the overall system and the platform for the shared situation map. HornetLog is the app for reporting and for work in the field. Hivora Sense is the digital monitoring bait pot for continuous observation. App, bait pot and platform work together, but can also be used on their own.
Can nests be reported through Hivora?
Yes. Besides sightings, nests can also be reported – via the HornetLog app or through reporting forms that associations and municipalities embed on their own website. Nest reports come together in a structured way on the platform, where participating associations can take them on and coordinate further steps.
Can associations embed their own reporting forms?
Yes. Associations and organizations can embed Hivora reporting forms as a web component via JavaScript on their own website. Sightings and nest reports flow straight into the platform as tickets – alongside app reports and bait-pot detections.
Can reports be exported?
Yes. Sightings and nest reports can be exported – for documentation, analysis and sharing, for example as a basis for official reporting channels. This keeps the collected data usable instead of scattered across individual inboxes.
Does Hivora show participating organizations?
Yes. Participating associations and organizations can be made visible by region, so it becomes clear where activity is already underway. Taking part does not automatically imply official responsibility – it makes engagement visible and supports coordination.
Does Hivora Sense work without the internet?
Yes. The AI analysis runs directly on the device, so Hivora Sense works completely offline. Recordings are synced later via the HornetLog app – either over Wi-Fi or offline via SD card.
Is Hivora Sense a trap?
No. Hivora Sense is a monitoring bait pot, not an automated catching or control mechanism. The device supports observing and documenting activity at the pot – it does not catch or kill animals and does not replace experts.
Can Hivora Sense observe marked hornets?
Hivora Sense documents activity at the bait pot and can help observe recurring animals – for example marked hornets and their return to the pot. This provides clues for further observation, but does not replace expert assessment.
Is Hivora an official reporting system?
Hivora is an independent platform that supports structured recording, coordination and analysis. It is not an official reporting system everywhere. However, recorded sightings and nest reports can be exported and prepared for official reporting channels.
