What is Hivora Sense?
To keep the Asian hornet in check, you need to know when and where it shows up. Hivora Sense takes over exactly that continuous monitoring at the bait pot: the device documents activity locally, an edge AI separates relevant detections from noise, and the results flow into the Hivora platform in a structured way – instead of scattered phone photos.
What's inside
A compact camera module sits right above the bait pot and keeps an eye on activity – day and night, without anyone having to be on site.
An AI trained specifically on the Asian hornet runs directly on the device and tells relevant detections from noise – with no cloud dependency.
Hivora Sense observes on its own and only documents what matters. That saves power, storage and the effort of reviewing hundreds of irrelevant images.
Data is synced via the HornetLog app – conveniently over Wi-Fi or fully offline with an SD card when there's no network in the field.
How it works
Place the bait pot as usual, mount Hivora Sense and switch it on. The classic wick bait pot stays part of the setup.
The camera module observes autonomously, the edge AI detects relevant activity and stores it locally – around the clock.
Pick up the detections with the HornetLog app – over Wi-Fi or SD card – and bring them together into a shared picture on the Hivora platform.
At a glance
Hivora Sense is designed as an open build: reproducible, maintainable and based on robust, readily available components.
Frequently asked questions
Hivora Sense is a digital bait station: a camera module with local edge AI that autonomously detects and documents the activity of the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) at the bait pot around the clock.
Place the bait pot, mount Hivora Sense on top and switch it on. The camera module monitors autonomously, the edge AI separates relevant detections from noise and stores them locally. You collect the detections with the HornetLog app – via Wi-Fi or SD card.
No. The AI runs directly on the device; Hivora Sense works completely offline and syncs either via Wi-Fi or offline via SD card.
No. Hivora Sense is an add-on for the classic bait pot – an extension, not a replacement.
Yes. Hivora Sense is an open build kit with a freely available build guide, built from robust, readily available components.

There is no such thing as 100% certainty with AI, and false detections can never be fully ruled out. The models already deliver reliable results today and are continuously improved – and the more users and reports come together, the sharper the detection becomes.
The bait pot can be powered from a USB adapter wherever a suitable outlet is available on site. Otherwise, the Hivora Sense bait pot can just as well run from a power bank.
